5 Hikes on the West Side of Lake George

Whether you’re looking for family-friendly nature trails or moderately difficult all-day hikes, you’ll find it all within minutes of our Lake George cabins, rooms and suites.

Prospect Mountain, Lake George

Prospect Mountain is probably the most popular hike in the Lake George Area. Although it’s only 3 miles roundtrip, this hike is extremely steep and a bit rocky, earning it a moderate-to-difficult rating. However, the 100-mile views of Lake George and the surrounding Adirondack Mountains at the summit are worth the effort. Parking is available at the trailhead on Smith Street in Lake George Village.

Amy’s Park, Bolton Landing

Amy’s Park is a quiet and remote nature preserve in Bolton Landing, perfect for nature walks with the family. The 500-acre park has more than 6 miles of trails that wind around active beaver ponds and up to a scenic view of Indian Brook and the Northwest Bay Region of Lake George. The trails are mostly flat with some short, gentle climbs and bridges, and the trailhead is located on Padanarum Road in Bolton Landing.

The Pinnacle, Bolton Landing

The Pinnacle features two hiking trails, both of which begin at the large parking area on Edgecomb Pond Road in Bolton Landing. The original Pinnacle Trail is a moderate 1.5-mile hike with expansive views of the Tongue Mountain Range and Lake George Narrows, as well as Shelving Rock, Buck Mountain and Sleeping Beauty on the east side of the Lake. Bradley’s Lookout Loop Trail is less than a mile long, and includes a gradual incline with one steeper section at the end.

Cat & Thomas Mountains, Bolton

These two mountains can be hiked together, or split into two separate hikes. If hiking Cat & Thomas Mountains together, you’ll summit Thomas Mountain first and then continue on the yellow trail for an additional 2 miles until you reach the summit of Cat Mountain. The Thomas Mountain Trail is a 3-mile roundtrip, moderate-to-difficult hike with views of Lake George’s south and central basins. If just hiking Cat Mountain, start at Edgecomb Pond Road and follow the red and blue trails for a moderate-to-difficult, 4-mile roundtrip hike with stunning views of Lake George and the Adirondack Mountains.

Tongue Mountain Range, Bolton

The Tongue Mountain Range consists of six separate peaks, all of which are considered difficult hikes. First Peak, French Point Peak and Fifth Peak can all be accessed from the Clay Meadows Trailhead, located approximately 9.5 miles north of Bolton Landing on Route 9N. The Deer Leap Trailhead and parking lot is located approximately 5.5 miles north of Clay Meadows, and provides access to Brown Mountain, Huckleberry Mountain and Five Mile Mountain.
